Maui Prep, Donegan- Burns Foundation announce inaugural scholarship recipient
NAPILI – Maui Preparatory Academy, an independent college prep and boarding school located in West Maui, last week announced and welcomed the inaugural recipient of The Donald S. Burns Scholarship, freshman Meghan Singh, to its community. The Donegan-Burns Foundation’s mission is to support children and education. The goal of the scholarship is for the recipient to be a well-rounded student who demonstrates leadership potential in academics and a desire to make a positive impact in other areas of the school, including fine and performing arts, community service, athletics and student government. “We’ve always been a huge supporter of Maui Prep, and this year the foundation is extremely excited to offer a four-year scholarship,” said Greg Burns, parent at Maui Prep and member of the Donegan-Burns Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“We’re very excited to have Meghan and her family at Maui Prep and look forward to seeing her success.” Scholarship recipient Singh and her family recently moved to Maui from Nevada, and they are excited for the opportunity for Meghan to hone her golf skills year-round in the gorgeous Maui weather. Meghan plays and practices at Kapalua Golf with coach Ben Hongo. She has competed with the U.S. Kids Golf Las Vegas Tour, playing in tournaments in California and Nevada, where she received many top five finishes. Meghan is also on Maui Prep’s cross country team, where she’s enjoying the camaraderie and meeting other athletes. “I am excited at this amazing opportunity and am honored that I was blessed with this scholarship,” said Meghan. “I look forward to the next four years at Maui Prep!” While Meghan certainly excels in athletics, she also aims to be an outstanding member of her community. In middle school, Meghan took many advanced classes and spent many semesters on the honor roll. She was nominated for a trip to Washington, D.C., two years in a row by two separate teachers for a leadership trip. She was active in her Las Vegas church and took part in community service. This past spring, she gathered donations for the St. Jude orphanage outside of Las Vegas and The Shade Tree Women’s Shelter. Meghan is CPR-certified and enjoys science – so much so that she hopes to be a veterinarian one day. “Meghan is a natural fit not only for Maui Prep’s core values, but also for The Donald S. Burns Scholarship,” noted Maui Preparatory Headmaster Jonathan Silver. “The school is pleased to welcome the Singh family into our ‘ohana –
